Winter Balls?

So, the website says that the Winter Celebration is all weekend -- January 29, 30, 31. But music is only on two nights. So I'm confused. Is there going to be music all three nights, and they just haven't finished setting up the lineup yet, or is there only going to be music on those two nights and then something different on the third night?

Help send Hawk to FaerieCon

Hey family. I am sending this letter out on Hawks behalf. He is a modest person and I asked him for his permission to do this however, he is none the less embarrassed. This matter needs to needs to be addressed. He has been given a wonderful opportunity to succeed and grow and I would hate for him to "Miss the boat" Literally! I feel that we all should rally around him and show him our support and love in sending him off to FaerieCon.

He informed me a week ago that he was given an awesome invitation from Pirate Magazine to be in their booth , display his art and help represent the Pirate life ! This is a huge honor and an awesome opportunity for him to show them his talents and possible get some really great freelance work and massive exposure on the East Coast! Who knows what can come. This certainly is not one that should be missed. No way!

Many of us are aware that he had was laid off recently and that times are tough financially for one and all. I am hoping that all of you will find it in your heart to give whatever you can to get Hawk to Baltimore . No matter how small or large a donation might be it will help . He needs airfare, taxi and some hotel expenses covered.

Woodland and Scott Huckabay live this Friday Night!

Woodland will be playing a big event this weekend in downtown Eugene on Friday Sept. 4th. It is called Eugene Celebration, and it features all sorts of great bands and performers on stages all over downtown Eugene.

One ticket gets you in to all the stages, and Woodland will headline the McDonald Theatre as part of the general admission on Friday night along with special guest Scott Huckabay.

Suggestions...

I had a great time this year! Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make it happen. I do have some suggestions though.
1) a secure perimeter. At secret house there was that red plastic fencing stuff around the area so children who might happen to wonder off, could not get too far.. At this years venue there was no such thing... kind of scary.
2) Much more shade!!! More tents or something please!!! For parents of small children who need to go from shade to shade it was rough..

Did anyone look into the country fair site?? I think it is totally unused except for that one weekend a year... It has tons of shade... Just a thought.

I'm haven't written any poetry in ages, and I almost never, ever, ever write in rhyme but I think all the rhythms of this past festival inspired me.

The Longing

Through the dappled shade and shadow,
through the flickering play of light,
there is a place I once did know
where faeries dance and magic's bright.

I've stumbled there a time or several,
lingered there with no desires
to return to world so hard and banal,
wishing only for sweet songs and fires.

'Twas not to last despite my yearning
for in my bed at last awoke,
back from the green afresh with learning,
magick lives my memories spoke.

Bittersweet the hidden knowledge
of realms that veils oft hold apart.
Although my feet through this world trudge,
the other world holds still my heart

Despite life filled with task and treasure,
I listen for fae footsteps fall,
through the green I'll dance with pleasure
when portal parts and faeries call.

Lost and Found

Last year someone posted a Lost and Found topic and a number of items and owners were reunited. Since I don't see one yet, here it is - the only thing I know of to add to the list, one of our party was displaying some wings for a vendor and part of the wings somehow "flew off" the blanket. We know they got kicked to the side accidentally, perhaps someone picked them up thinking they were lost? Also, we found a child's teeshirt, maybe a 3 or 4T, with dolphins on it. Turned that in to the Events Merchandise Booth which was the only lost and found spot we knew of - so the organizers probably have it.

Falling into the Faerie Ring - Faerieworlds 2009 - by Lisa Steinke

Faeries cast their magick spells and play tricks upon your eyes.
They dance around you playfully and put sparkles in the skies.
All of your desires will tempt you as you wake,
From the slumber of man's coma the nectar you shall take.

Losing track of time, be forever if you wish,
Drinking from their wine and eating from their dish.

But if returning to reality is really in your plan,

Sigh...

Then you just haven't been to Faerieworlds man.

Every year at Faerieworlds is such a unique experience. I always ride the high of my last trip there and walk in with expectations to repeat it. And yet it is never the same twice. This year is no exception.

Moving venues and changing up the bands I really was uncertain. I thought...it's not the same and it doesn't feel familiar.

Yet it did.

Mother nature played one heck of a prank on us as she turned up the thermostat. I originally thought the purpose was just out of a sick sense of humor. First the band change, the location change and now this?

But don't ever second guess the fae and the play because it will capture you in a magickal way...

First and foremost I must say that the shopping was Epic. Nothing like I have ever experienced before. I think I pretty much replaced my home wardrobe this year and will be exposing my little town to an entirely new way of dressing. Very stunning work.
The whole look of the participants was simply dreamy. I felt as if I had fallen into the rabbit hole and really had no desire to climb out.

I'm already saving up to shop next year.

Next, the bands...well I was able to see Woodland whom I adore and paint to. They had guests joining them who brought the sound to a whole new level. Absolutely amazing. Adam Hurst is so unbelievable with his sound. Melodic and hypnotic...very groovy.

Then there was Faun. The new band who I thought I was going to snob because they weren't Kan'nal and you know how I adore and worship that band. Well, they began to play and I was talking (which is something I often do) and my body began to move without me even realizing it. They caught my faerie and pulled her out to play. The drums and harmony oh my GOD!!!!! I immediately ran out and bought the cd...I tried to buy the shirt off the sales girl's back. Hers was brown and they only carried the black. It was pretty funny. At one point I had her talked into it. But eventually, she backed down because it was uber cool music and an equally uber cool shirt. Oh well.

Enough about the market...let's talk experience.

It was unbelievably hot. My hat goes off to those working in their tents and booths. There was water provided but the heat was extreme. That being said...it pushed many, many people to the river.
Faerie magick.

Beauty abound. Wow....the river bank was lined by river rocks and roots and trees. There were black berries growing that were being picked and eaten. The sun kept us warm as we all ventured into the water. I'll be posting pictures. And most will be of the river because that is where the action seemed to be. It was too perfect. All of the beautiful faeries with their wings and sparkles, parked beneath giant oaks and swimming with the fish.

I found a rope swing with my daughter and turned 10 again! Swimming in my tank and undies. Sigh...that was hard to leave.

The natural surroundings with the faeries was surreal and picturesque. Eye candy for the soul.

So yes it was hot, but had it not been, we would have not been wanting to go to the water and something truly serene and surreal would have been missed.

This was a very spiritual experience. Reminding many of us that Mother Nature gives us what we need when we need it if we only remember to stay on her path.

I found the river by trying to get back to faerieworlds from the camp. My feet kept taking me there. I was lost, but really I was found. Over and over.

My daughter went with me and we spent the days by and in the water playing with all of the people and enjoying our relationship with the mother earth. Then as it would begin to cool, we went to faerieworlds and was welcomed by the amazing music-natural delicious food-and the mental massage of the talented artisans and craftsmen that all made up an experience that I can only define as my perfect world come to life.

Yes, it was different, and I'm so thankful it was because this was amazing. It was a deeper experience than I've ever had at Faerieworlds and the community was provocative and inviting. It was like coming home.

Next year I plan to bring my whole family as it has become not only a fun place to go, but a necessity for me to remember what I'm made of.

Closing the gate

Lyra and I returned to the site yesterday in the cool of the evening.

The last of the vagabond vendors had packed up and taken to the highway. The field where we had danced and drank and sweated was cleared of trash and mostly free of any evidence that we had been there.

Up in the camps it was even stranger... with all our tarps and tents packed away, our caution tape and trash bins and bits and bites and blessings all gone... except for the occasional bright feather.

Lyra and I walked through the grove of quiet camp feeling like we had walked out of a storyteller's fantasy, in which our hero cavorts with the fae on a magical night only to wake the next morning alone and empty on some grassy hillside. Together, we strolled hand in hand through the trees, kissed beneath a fiery crown of sunset, and walked back just in time to see the moon ascend over the Eastern hills.

Then we closed the gates on the realm of faerie for another year, and came home.

Alter-Abled & Semi-Alter-Abled Camping Access & Help

Hi. These questions probably really belong in the camping section for Jeremy & Lyra, but since we're so close to the event, I want them to have a better shot at being seen & answered by someone- hence the separate thread.

Given that there's now camping, & we're going to be more spread out at beautiful Mt. Pisgah.:

1) Is anyone in charge of helping alter-abled folks get situated, like at OFC, & many other fests?

2) Will there be any designated closer-in (hopefully shady) camping area for folks that are in wheelchairs, using walking aids, or just have physical reasons they can't walk as far as well as most folks?
It would be so helpful to be able to use our campsites to rest up during the fest at various times, but it's not so easy for folks w/ physical challenges to go longer distances back & forth.

3) Just how close will we be able to get our vehicles to various camping areas for set-up pre-general gate opening on Fri. & for teardown after the fest?

4) Where exactly do we go to fill up on potable water?

Personally, I'm not in a wheelchair, but had surgery last winter, have an alter-abled sign on the truck, & still healing, have some limitations. I'm a local & can zip home when I need to, but I hope to take full advantage of my camping pass. Tho' I expect to see plenty of people I know at FW, I don't think I can count on much definite help at the time I can go set up, & besides, I like to be as independent as possible. Keeping it relatively simple, have a small wheeled carrier thingy to strap some stuff on... but still, a tent, thick pad, small cooler, chair, etc...

So it would really be VERY helpful if I knew more about exactly far I'll be hauling stuff, etc., if there will be anyone who can help, etc.
I'm sure that also goes for other people w/ physical challenges, & tenfold for folks in wheelchairs.
No doubt people w/ babies & little kids would like to know about distances/access, too.

Any info would be GREATLY appreciated! So happy & excited about being back out at the fest, & that we're at Mt. Pisgah now!!

Answers here for camping questions - Now with Site Map!

Hi all... I've posted a map of the site in the Tribe's picture gallery.

Hopefully this should clarify some of the discussion...

As you can see from the map, the site is somewhat spread out this year. This is necessary since we only just moved to the site a few weeks ago. This is all improv, and making the best of what we can do in the time we have...

Party camp is in the large open field below the Main Event Site.

Family/Quiet Camp is in the area to the left - you can't tell from the doctored image, but it's a lovely shaded area full of trees. It's also a bit more of a walk.

The campstove cooking area HAS TO BE on the X next to the large rectangle. This is because it is a concrete pad. The rest of the site is tinder-dry grass. (Sorry, but that's the way it has to be this year...)

Showers are a bit removed from the camping area by necessity - they had to be near a water source! But on the bright side... there ARE showers! :)

Yes, there will be drinking water available as well.

Lyra and I will be your camping coordinators this year... if you have any questions, feel free to ask here!

New Site Questions

I have a couple of questions now that the festival has moved to the new site... (Sorry if you have answered them already, I can't find the answers)
With the new site:
1) Do we have a bit more room per person to camp? I bought this fantastic 10x13 tent and based on the old space "rules" i would be off by 3 feet on one side.... Please don't make me have to buy a new tent, I love my tent-mahal!
2) Cooking: Can we now cook in our own areas?
3) Water: Will there be pottable water available? Drink-safe too?
4) Is there an updated camper's rules list available?

Thanks so much :) Can't wait to get on the road, Canada is COLD and I am looking forward to some nice hot weather!

was wondering if anyone is driving into faerieworlds from the north?

i'm in olympia, wa and in dire need of a ride down to eugene next week.

i'm volunteering, so I think I need to be down there kind of early.

I'm at least from Oregon so I have an idea what the weather might be like for FW but I figure it might be wise to check with everyone and see what FW veterans think the weather is gonna be like.

Are we talking 90's or 80's? or a perfect mid to high 70's (here where I put on my wishing cap)

How about at night?

I'm getting the last of my costuming stuff ready and want to be prepared just in case.

ATTN: Faerieworlds Work Party Participants!

We just got the news that due to the fire danger being elevated in Oregon to a "level 2", we will not be allowed to use any gas powered lawn mowers or weed-whackers after 1 p.m. tomorrow....so since we are meeting at 4 p.m., please bring rakes and shovels, gloves, and any electric (rechargeable) weed cutters or mowers anyone might have....also a wheel barrow would be handy if anyone has room to haul one over! Thanks!!! :)

I am going to be ariving at the airport in Portland late thursday night/early Friday morning 12:33am fri to be precise. I had no Idea how far the airport was from where I needed to be. If anyone is leaving for the festival from the Portland area and might be able to get me I need a ride.

Getting to Faerieworlds from I-5

I took a trip from Portland down to Mount Pisgah yesterday, so here's how to get there from I-5:

From the North, I-5 crosses the Willamette River and then takes a dogleg to the East and then South. Take Exit 189, the first exit after the dogleg. You'll drive parallel to I-5 south for about a mile to East 30th Avenue. Turn left and cross I-5.

Next, turn left to head North on Franklin Blvd. Take the first right, go under the railroad tracks, then make another right onto Seavey Loop Road. It crosses Franklin Blvd., so if you miss the turn, stay on Franklin Blvd and then take a left onto Seavey Loop Road. Follow Seavey Loop Road. Seavey Loop Road turns south after a couple of miles. Don't turn. Just continue straight on Seavey Way until it crosses the Coast Fork of the Willamette River. Turn left. From there, I'd imagine there will be plenty of signs or just follow everyone else unless you're getting there very early like me.

From I-5 coming from the South, it's even easier. Just take Exit 189 which leads North onto Franklin Blvd., then follow the instructions in the paragraph above.

To return to I-5 North, go back along Seavey Loop Road, get onto Franklin Blvd. and go under the railroad tracks. At the intersection, turn right and follow signs to I-5. For I-5 South, turn left at the intersection, take East 30th Avenue across I-5 and turn left to I-5 South.

I'd suggest taking a look at Google Maps at maps.google.com/ and zoom in on Exits 188 and 189 from I-5. It's just a bit tricky coming from the North, but if you look at a good map, maybe print it out, it should be no trouble.

New Venue FAQ

we've been wondering a few things, everyone has, about the new site and how it will shape our experience. maybe we could use this thread as a FAQ so that everyone's questions get answered more or less in the same place so maybe we don't have to all ask them individually :)
so, add your general questions to the thread and hopefully we'll all benefit from a centralized Q&A and the friendly FW staff might only have to answer these questions 100 times each instead of 30,000 times :)
so to start off:

1) will we be able to drive our cars to the campsites and leave them there for the duration of the fest or will parking be in a separate area from camping?

2) what sort of facilities (showers, bathrooms, etc) will campers have access to.

I am sad to say that I won't be able to attend FaerieWorlds after all this year. :( I am sooooo bummed, it's not even funny. I was summoned for Jury Duty starting on July31st, so I thought my husband and I could just come for the other 2 days. He's been out of work for a while and even though we had been set up volunteer at FW, realistically we cannot afford the small trip. The venue changed and off-site camping is just as expensive as on site....I had to play the 'responsible human' and make the call that we should can the festival this year. It crushed me to have to make that decision.....FaerieWorlds is my home and all of you are my family and I will miss you all terribly. :(

HAVE SOME EXTRA FUN FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Maybe this will motivate me to get my wings ready to vend next year?!*

Work has shifted in a good way and I'm able to join you for FW after all!!! (Happy mushroom dance)

Anyhoo,
I'm flying in to Portland on Thursday, June 30(using Airmiles for my flight so Portland was my best option). I will be renting a vehicle for the weekend, so anyone needing a ride let me know (I may already have one passenger, but should have room for 2 or 3 more).

Just signed up for 4 of the workshops (fingers crossed that I don't get an email saying they're all sold out :P)

Just an announcement to the tribe FW community that I will be vending again at FW 2009!

Please stop by my booth and say "hello" watch me paint and or get your very own fairy portrait created for $25 for 20min sketch.

I am taking signups in advance this year and I will be doing portraits every half hour from:

1:30 - 8pm ( Fri- july 31st)
12:30 - 8pm ( saturday Aug. 1st)
12:30 - 6pm ( sunday Aug 2nd)

So let me know what day and time you would like so you can get in early. Spots fill up fast and some times i run over , I always end up turning some one away due to demand. So best to book your portrait time early to make sure you get in!

In addition to portraits at my booth, there will also be alot of fantasy art, originals & reproductions, Cards, Fantasy Books, Gifts, Beautiful Magical Faeriewings and much more!

I'll be available for signings after 8pm on friday and saturday and after 6pm on sunday.

In the past year, my life has been a multitude of ups and downs. And as I was laying in bed sick, I was thinking of all of you and how you have all helped me in your various different ways.

Kelly and Lio: I can not Thank you enough for bringing this wonderful event and these amazing people into my life. I can not imagine how hard things would have been without FaerieWorlds to look forward to every year, Sunday Night Chat every week, and this amazing COMFy Fae Family I hear from from every day in one way or another.

And to that AMAZING COMFY FAE FAM: You guys are wonderful! The love, support, knowledge, spirituality, and smiles I get from you all every day could not be rivaled by any other group of friends I've had in my whole life. At first i was going to go name by name, but I realized if I did that I would be typing for hours. You are amazing people who have kept even my very dark times at least a little bright. I love you all so much and want you all to know that you and your family's are in my thoughts and heart every day! Sorry I've been away for a long time. Work and a side project have kept me more than a tad busy.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend FW this year as we have a very large project at work that I'm lead on, and its launch date has been pushed back to the first week in August. So taking time off at the end of July is no longer an option for me.
I wish you all an extraordinary time at the festival, and I'll be checking in to see how amazing it was.

So I finally stopped procrastinating and have just booked my flight for Faerieworlds... I am super excited, but one logistical details, because the flights on Thursday (July 30) wouldn't get me there till way late I had to book my flight for Wednesday which means I will be arriving in Eugene for Wednesday (july 29). i don't know if I will be able to camp onsite for wednesday night, so thought I would put it out there that this fae will need a place to stay most likely for Wednesday night, in case any faerie folk can help me out :-)

With all due respect, the Lane county regulations are impervious and absurdley strick with multithousand dollar fines.

One of our favorites was last year during OCF when they put out construction signs so they could double tickets and seatbelt fines.
NO construction was happening.

I haven't seen a link for the rules everyone's talking about but that would definitely be a change from previous years so if someone could clarify, that'd be great!

I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me out with my vendor questions.

Kelly for answering my questions about the apps.

Meo, you'vebeenpixied, Jason, Kelli, Angel, and anyone I may have missed for the feedback and kind words!

and Lavender! for getting the ball rolling! Thanks to you 4 different vendors including myself were able to co-ordinate and get our booths reserved! Its also let me meet some really great people.

This is not only going to be my first time to vendor ever but also my first FW too!

I'm so excited I think I may just explode on the spot! But no I wont explode I will just get more flutes made, and maybe some masks, and some other stuff, oh and get everyone's costumes ready... and organize the camping supplies...

Camping question

I am merely posting this as a reminder and definitely realize we have some time left before I have to know...

My main concern/question is the time of arrival for camping. Is it possible to set-up camp the night before (Thursday evening)? If that is know where near an option how does the on site camping thing work? Do we line up and wait til 11am? And then first come first served?

We are caravan'ing from Montesano WA and its about a six hour drive. We are making car arrangements and I just don't have all the answers for them. I know how very busy you are Kelly and that you will get back to me as soon as you can. No worries!! *hugs*

On June 20th at Tea Party Bookshop there is a "pre Faerieworlds" event spearheaded by our beloved Drumwench. This event promises to be outstanding and FUN! Please join everyone at 420 Ferry St Se Salem OR 97301

Advice for a Newbie?

Well hello everyone its a pleasure to be here!

I have a couple questions for the group!

Firstly Im thinking about Vending at this years event. It would be the first time I have ever done anything like this ever and I want to know some things.

For starters do you folks think my stuff would do well there? http://savagedryad.deviantart.com Please direct your attention to the Flutes and the Crafts sections of my page.

Secondly since I would be new I would love to share space with someone. Im asking around everywhere to see if anyone is willing to. Someone who lives close to me would be great that way we can meet face to face before the event and work out the details. (I live in Salem Oregon fyi)

Even if I don't vend I still may go just because I've wanted to go for years and never been able to. Thanks in advance for the advice guys :)

Gorgeous dreamcatcher-like wings @ Spring Fairy Festival - need help finding her!

I was talking to a very talented wing-maker at the Tacoma Spring Fairy Festival, and I misplaced her business card while I was chasing my unruly munchkins in the kids' room!

I really really want to take a look at her website, and I remember her saying that she's in this tribe. I don't remember her name (because I am made of FAIL when it comes to names, sorry), but she was very nice and I liked her. :)

So if you are her, or if maybe you know who was vending dreamcatcher-like amazing fairy wings at the Spring Fairy Festival, drop me a PM, maybe?

This year's Faerieworlds

Hey all,
I'm finally able to get to Faerieworlds this year! (woohoo!). However, I'm coming down by myself so I'm looking for people to hang out with while there, and people who are looking for a ride to and from the site. (I'll be renting a vehicle for the weekend and have space for at least 3 people). I've already posted on Space Share offering rides, but thought I would do so here too. Very excited to finally get there and meet some other Faerie folk.

Faerieworlds Imbolc rite 2009

We just put together this video from the Bad faeries ball of our Imbolc ceremony...this took place january 31st in eugene...so it's exactly across the wheel (6 months precisely)from Faerieworlds Lunasa ceremony, where we shall all meet again and dance the spiral!

Do you still need any acts for the Village Stage? If so, I was speaking with Tony of Vixy & Tony this weekend, and they would so love to play Faerieworlds. They're already planning to come down, and they are good, I'm telling you, very good!! Can I pass along contact info for him to talk to someone about playing.

Also, where are folks who are NOT camping staying? Tony said they need haven't made hotel reservations yet, and they aren't happy campers. Any suggestions?

OMG i am just ridiculous about this!!!! Many is the festival i've been to that had onsite camping and what fun it was.. but this is f&*$ing FaerieWorlds onsite camping and it's going to be a hootenanny and a half because FW is way more fun than every other fest with a way more fun horde of hooligans to party with than any other fest! Is anyone planning on getting any sleep? if so.. you are underestimating our collective powers to hoot and nanny! hehehehehe This is going to be the most epic FW in the glorious history of FW!!!!!

Woodland and Frouds at Trolls et Legendes!

We are so excited for our upcoming shows in the old world...
We will be joining our dear friends Brian and Wendy Froud who will be the guests of honor at this years Trolls et Legendes festival in Brussels on April 10th through the 12th.
Woodland will perform on Sunday April 12th after the beautiful Cecile Corbel (France), and before Omnia (Netherlands) ....other incredibly magical acts include our good friends QNTAL (Germany), the UNBELIEVABLE (on of my favorites EVER!!) Daemonia Nymphe! (Greece and the UK presently) And another of our favorites, the truly enchanting Louisa John-Krol (Australia).

Payment for booth space and onsite camping

*sigh* another bothersome question, I apologize. I sent this through the website query form but I might get a faster answer here and I am kind of time strapped... pardon me for posting questions here please.

Can I pay for my booth space and camping with a money order? I am in the process of quitting my credit card and opening a new account which will take a while and it would be easier to pay with money order. I am not sure it would work if I paid by credit card.
